Ear  candling - what is it?

Hopi ear candling is a fantastic, non-invasive treatment suitable for problems and conditions related to the ear, nose and throat. Ear candles are not candles as such; they are made of cotton or linen that's wound into a cone shape, soaked in wax (usually beeswax) and then allowed to harden. I only use  Biosun candles which are made from  100% natural ingredients.

History

The mystery of fire has fascinated people from the very beginning of time, and ear candles provide a similar fascination, having been used by many cultures since ancient times. The peoples of the Siberian prairies, Asia and most notably, native North and South American Indians mention ear candles in their myths, with ancient rock paintings showing ear candles being used at rituals and medicinal ceremonies.

What does it involve?

For this treatment, the client is made comfortable lying on his/her side (if need be the client can lie on his/her back with head tilted).  The candle is then inserted into the auditory canal ensuring it is fitted correctly.  It is then lit, releasing the heated vapours from the candle into the ear . Hopi ear candling creates a light suction action  with the movement of the flame creating a vibration of air in the ear candle, generating a massage-like effect on the eardrum thus balancing the pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses.  The client will also feel a pleasant feeling of warmth, with some crackling sounds (like sizzling bacon!) as the candle burns down (it takes approximately 10-15 minutes per candle).  When the candle has burnt down to the “safe line”, a relaxing massage is applied to the face and neck, enhancing the treatment of the candles, helping the sinus tubes to drain, eliminate toxins, stimulate energy points and increasing relaxation.   Then the candles are examined and the client will be advised if any further treatments are needed.  Because of filters in the candles, ear wax WILL NOT be drawn up into the candle but may be softened and some wax may escape from the ear up to 48 hours after a session, sometimes in the shower or on a pillow on the morning after the treatment.
